Almaty, January 31 – February 1, 2025 - The international digital forum Digital Almaty 2025 is taking place in Almaty, bringing together leaders of the technology industry, business representatives, and government officials. The Executive Director of the QAZTECH Alliance, Nurlan Rakhmetov, spoke at the panel session "Sustainable Development Goals: From Sustainable Enterprise to Sustainable Region," where he emphasized the role of technological progress in achieving sustainable development.

In his speech, Nurlan Rakhmetov noted that modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital transformation, simultaneously contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create new challenges. One of the key tasks is balancing innovative growth while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and society.

QAZTECH brings together leading enterprises and technology companies to create an ecosystem of long-term cooperation in the field of sustainable development.

In his speech, Nurlan Rakhmetov highlighted three key challenges faced by the digital industry:

  • Increased energy consumption and carbon footprint. The development of data centers (DPC) and AI technologies increases energy consumption. QAZTECH offers solutions to improve energy efficiency and transition to renewable energy sources.

  • Environmental consequences of electronics production and disposal. The extraction of rare earth metals and the growth of electronic waste pose threats to the environment. An important direction is the development of recycling programs and responsible resource consumption.

  • Digital inequality. The development of technologies can increase the gap between countries and social groups. It is necessary to invest in digital inclusion and accessibility of technologies for all.

"QAZTECH brings together business and technology for long-term cooperation in sustainable development, creating a balance between innovation and economic efficiency while considering the principles of the SDGs," emphasized Nurlan Rakhmetov.

The QAZTECH Technology Companies Alliance (non-profit organization) brings together like-minded leading technological entrepreneurs of the country. We believe that only the technology sector can significantly improve the structure of Kazakhstan's economy and ensure its high long-term growth.
